Discover the Adobe Kickbox

Learn more about how Adobe employees are become more innovative

Adobe Kickbox is an innovation process that Adobe developed for its own use and then open-sourced for everyone to use it. It is both a process for individuals and a system for deploying that process across an organization at scale. It’s designed to increase innovator effectiveness, accelerate innovation velocity, and measurably improve innovation outcomes. It can also optimize innovation investments by reducing costs compared to traditional approaches.

Who is it for?

Adobe Kickbox delivers an actionable process for discovering new opportunities, validating customer engagement, and evaluating new business potential. It includes tools that help innovators define, refine, validate, and evolve their idea. Therefore, Adobe Kickbox is designed for both individual innovators and organizations. Individuals can use this site to go through the Kickbox process on their own and organizations can deploy the Kickbox process to their employees at scale.

Kickbox helps innovators

  • Be more effective and have more impact
  • Build valuable life skills and experience (for example, ideation, divergent thinking, and business creation)
  • Increase job satisfaction and engagement (as demonstrated by participant evaluation scores)
  • Discover (or rediscover) their passion for delighting customers

Kickbox helps organizations

  • Increase innovation quantity, quality, and speed across the organization
  • Empower existing innovators to be more effective and more engaged
  • Identify and activate latent innovators (who may not know they’re innovators)
  • Foster an innovation culture and attract innovators to the organization

Between my consulting, teaching and writing, I’ve worked with around three dozen companies on their innovation programs, but this is the most open, yet comprehensive mobilization of employee innovation talent I’ve ever come across.

The Kickbox Revolution

The invention of the Adobe Kickbox was the begining of a global movement. Adobe developed Kickbox for its own internal use and created both a process for individuals and a system for deploying that process across an organization at scale. It’s designed to increase innovator effectiveness, accelerate innovation velocity, and measurably improve innovation outcomes. It can also optimize innovation investments by reducing costs compared to traditional approaches.

Mark Randall joined the Kickbox Foundation from Adobe where he was Chief Strategist and Vice President of Creativity, incubating disruptive new businesses and leading the company’s global innovation program. To empower Adobe’s 20,000 employees to launch their own ideas Randall designed the Kickbox innovation process, a unique innovator’s toolbox which Fortune Magazine called “a magical cardboard bundle to kickstart creative problem solving”.

In 2015 Adobe open-sourced Kickbox leading to its adoption at thousands of enterprises, educational institutions, governmental agencies and non-profits. Kickbox has since grown into the world’s most popular enterprise innovation process with Adobe being been named to Forbes and Fast Company’s “Most Innovative Companies” lists. Mark Randall’s own innovation projects included development of Adobe Live and Adobe Pass, which earned an Emmy Award for technical achievement. Randall also pioneered key strategic initiatives, most recently, Adobe’s $800M acquisition of Fotolia.
